James P. Chorek graduated from the University of Notre Dame in
1982, with a Bachelor of Business Administration, concentrating in Finance and
Business Economics. As a native of Chicago, the excitement of the commodities
markets drew him back home, becoming a runner and clerk in the summer of 1982 at
the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. His fascination with the foreign exchange
markets began at Clayton Brokerage Company's International Monetary Market (IMM)
desk.
After contemplating the possibility of life as a pit trader, Mr. Chorek
decided instead to become a technical analyst with Money Market Services in
1983. Nearly eight years with MMS allowed him to thoroughly investigate the
foreign exchange, money and credit markets, developing skills to become a
popular market timer with institutional clients around the globe.
A new decade brought a new venue for analysis, Elliott Wave International.
After moving to the Atlanta area in 1990 to help develop an institutional
division at EWI, Mr. Chorek settled into the position of Director of Currency
Research. The "Currency Outlook" and its "Chorek's Forex Wrap-Up" became a "must
read" among foreign exchange professionals throughout the 1990s.
Tiring of the long, hot Georgia summers, Mr. Chorek decided to move his
family to the mountains of western North Carolina in early 2000, starting his
own company, Chorek.com, Inc. He actively trades his own account through his
membership at the Mid-America Exchange. He is also a long-time member of the
Market Technicians Association and one of the first members to receive the
coveted "Charter Market Technician" designation. When he is not analyzing the
markets, you'll find Mr. Chorek fishing in one of the many trout streams of the
Smoky Mountains.
